Photograph from the 2017 marches against the Maduro regime and the Bolivarian Revolution in Caracas, Venezuela. The photograph on the right takes after the triangular composition of “Liberty Leading the People,” a painting by Eugène Delacroix commemorating the July Revolution of 1830, which toppled King Charles X of France.
The Venezuelan Revolution was influenced by the French Revolution and by the spread of Enlightenment ideas, social inequality, the discontent of Creoles, and their desire to gain independence from France and form a new democratic government.
