The present body of works consists of paintings that use human remains pouch (HRP) material as support for oil-based pigments. An HRP is a non-porous bag designed to contain a human body, used for the storage and transportation of shrouded corpses. Body bags can also be used for the storage of corpses within morgues.
The Most Dangerous City in the World
Statista.com ranks the 50 most dangerous cities by murder rate per 100,000 inhabitants. Topping the 2020 list was Los Cabos, Mexico, whose murder rate was 138 for every 100,000 people living in the city. In second place came Caracas, Venezuela, whose murder rate was 111 for every 100,000 people living in the city.
Most of the world’s most dangerous cities are located in Latin America. The highest ranked city outside of Latin America is St. Louis in the United States, which is ranked thirteenth with a murder rate of 60.59 in 2018. Detroit, with a murder rate of 39.7, came in at forty-second place.
Violence in Latin America is caused in great part by drug trafficking, weapons trafficking, and gang wars.
